The 2017 Ford Edge sets the standard for Crossover SUVs in many categories. Perhaps that’s why the Ford Edge is Canada’s best-selling Crossover
. Take engines, for example. Many competitors put buyers in a one-engine-fits-all situation. But that’s not the case with the Edge, which offers buyers their choice of one of three different available engines.
A Choice of Three Powerful Engines
The 2.0L EcoBoost engine is standard in all models except Sport. The innovative engine features a unique twin-scroll turbocharger for a smooth delivery of power. Advanced technology helps the 2.0 EcoBoost produce 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. The 2017 Edge SE, when equipped with Auto Stop-Start Technology and front-wheel-drive, has a Government of Canada-estimated rating of 11.3L/100 km (25 mpg) city, 8.0L/100 km (35 mpg) highway, and 9.8L/100 km (30 mpg) combined.
The optional 3.5 L naturally-aspirated twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) V6 delivers 280 horsepower. This engine is available on SE, SEL and Titanium models. Ti-VCT provides variable cam timing, which optimizes performance to match driving conditions.
The most powerful engine in its class can be found only in the 2017 Ford Edge Sport -- Ford’s twin-parallel-mounted turbocharged and intercooled 2.7 L EcoBoost engine. This is the same engine as can be found under the hood of Canada’s most popular truck, the Ford F150 pickup. But powerful doesn’t have to mean heavy as the 2.7 L EcoBoost is assembled from a lightweight compacted graphite iron engine block and two DOHC aluminium heads. Power output puts some full-size SUVs to shame with 315 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque.
All engines are mated to the six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission The SelectShift automatic transmission allows you to choose between a conventional automatic-shifting drive mode and a semi-automatic shifting sport mode. Within sport mode, the driver has two choices: more-aggressive automatic shifting and purely manual shifting, where the driver changes gears up and down using the paddles behind the steering wheel.
As Ready For A Snowy Day As It Is A Summer Evening
Ford’s not forgotten that the 2017 Edge needs to travel in all four seasons. For on-road traction in slippery conditions, there’s available Intelligent AWD. There’s also an available Cold Weather Package for Ford Edge that includes heated front seats and front and rear all-weather floor mats. In addition, heated side mirrors and a heated steering wheel are standard equipment on select models, along with a dedicated washer for the front camera, to keep it clear regardless of road conditions.
With adaptive steering on the Ford Edge, the degree to which the front wheels turn is matched to vehicle speed, optimising steering response – light effort when turning around in a parking lot and a more firm feel on the highway. Adaptive steering is standard on Edge Sport and available on Edge Titanium.
The 2017 Ford Edge Watching Out For You, Even Where You Can’t
The lane keeping system uses a camera tucked behind the rear view mirror that keeps an eye on lane markings. If the camera detects the beginnings of an unintentional drift out of the lane, the system will use the steering system and the instrument cluster display to alert and, if needed, aid the drive to not stray from the lane.
The available BLIS with cross-traffic alert utilises radar to spot vehicles where the driver can’t see them – in their blind spot. BLIS will alert the driver with an indicator light in the exterior mirror on the side where the other vehicle might not have been spotted. The companion Cross-traffic alert is an aid that helps detect unseen traffic approaching from either side when backing out of a parking space.
Connectivity That Truly Keeps You Connected
The 2017 Edge offers SYNC 3, Ford’s easy-to-use, responsive voice-activated technology. With quick reactions to conversational voice commands and a smartphone-like touchscreen with impressive responsiveness, the sleek user-friendly interface connects to and controls smartphones. SYNC 3 is fast, smart, and easy to use.
A Large Cargo Area That’s Just the Wave of a Foot to Access
The total passenger volume in the 2017 Ford Edge is an impressive 3,225 L (113.9 cu. ft.) with 1,110 L (39.2 cu. ft.) behind the second row with the seat up. And when the second-row seats are folded down, the 2017 Edge features a total of 2,078 L (73.4 cu. ft.) of cargo space behind the front row.
There’s also the available second-row EasyFold seat release that with the touch of a button folds the rear seats creating a flat cargo floor. The available foot-activated, hands-free power lift gate with opens automatically when the Intelligent Access key is in the driver’s pocket or purse and they wave their foot under the bumper.
As Gorgeous On the Outside As On The Inside
The dynamically designed Ford Edge, from its dynamic grille to the fluid shapes and smooth lines that run the length of its body, has a wide and aggressive stance that can’t help but turn heads. In addition, there are four new exterior colour options available for 2017 Ford Edge include Canyon Ridge, Blue Jeans, White Gold and Burgundy Velvet Tinted Clearcoat. New 20-inch premium polished aluminium wheels are available for the Titanium edition.
With four models to choice from each 2017 Ford Edge, the vehicle that helped define the Crossover SUV segment delivers a balance of power, performance, handling and technology. From its stylish interior to intelligent AWD, which is standard on Sport models and optional on the others, a choice of three different available engines, and Sync 3, the latest in technology integration. All what you’d expect from Canada’s bestselling line of SUVs.
